Engineering Materials Development Institute
Manufacturing Department

Head of Deparment: Engr. A. S. Idowu

Unit(s) in the Department include:

  • Advanced Manufacturing Centre: This unit have Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machines such as Vertical Machining Centre (VMC), CNC Lathe, Electric Discharge Machine (EDM), Surface Grinding Machine and Gear Hobber Machine. They are modern machines that are used for production, incorporating highly automated and sophisticated computerized design and operational systems. They are used to manufacture high quality products at low cost within the shortest delivery time.
  • Conventional Machine Shop: This unit have machines that are usually operated manually. They are 1.5m Lathe, 1.0m Lathe, Milling Machine, Shaping machine, Pillar Drilling Machine and Surface Grinding Machine.
  • Fabrication Unit: In this unit, we have Eccentric Press Machine, Guillotine Shear Machine, Arc Welding Machines, Spot Welding Machine, Angle Grinding Machine and Oxy-acetylene Welding Equipment. They are mainly used to carry out divers fabrication processes.
  • Virtual Manufacturing Unit: This is the unit that allows the engineers to work with object in a virtual space without having to think about objects underlying technical information. This unit allows human capacity for complex evaluation of our work.

We make use of the following components in this unit.
(1). Computer Aided Design (CAD): It enables us to model a geometry using Geometric operation that can be close to real life Industrial machinery processes. We make use of software like Pro E, Auto CAD.
(2). Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM): The unit aids actual manufacture from the CNC machines via virtual manufacturing that would have been simulated using CAM interface.
