Design, Modelling and Simulation Department

This department is equipped with top notch engineers and mathematical professionals using state-of-the-art equipment and softwares to translate ideas into models and products and show casing same in an easy to understand concepts to the end users and public.

The department is equipped with state-of-the-art 3D design software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Solid Works, Pro Engineer/PTC Creo, COMSOL Multiphysics, MatLab and Granta Design for the Design, Modeling, Simulation, Engineering Analysis and Materials Selection of Engineering Components.

Design

The department is grouped into the following units: Design and Drafting, Modeling and Simulation.

Unit(s) in the Department include:

  • Drafting and Design Unit:
    The Unit prepares mechanical or digital drawings, diagrams or blueprints of various products to guide its production in the Mechanical or Foundry Workshop. Often using computer aided drafting and design (CADD) software, the drafting and design engineers of the institute provide the vital link between design theory and practical application by translating critical design concepts into workable plans for tangible and buildable engineering end-products.
  • The Modeling Unit:
    A model is a simplified representation of a system at some particular point in time or space intended to promote understanding of the real system. The process of representing the model is called modeling. Here in DMS, we are experts in mathematical models and computer aided designs. Modern and sophisticated softwares like MatLab, MathCAD, Mathematical, Professional Engineering (Pro/E), Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, etc are used to perform several modeling operations and jobs.
  • Simulation Unit:
    Simulation is a computerized version of the model which is run over time. It involved getting information about how something will behave without actually testing it in real life. For instance, if we want to produce a machine capable of producing fire proof bricks in large quantity, we can model and simulate it first with the aid of the sophisticated simulation tools at our disposal here in EMDI, Akure to ascertain its viability and performance before embarking on its production. We perform simple to complex animation, analysis and simulation operations.
