The bi-weekly seminar commenced at 11:15 a.m. on 27th August, 2024 with the National Prayer, followed by opening remarks from the Acting Managing Director/Overseeing Officer, Mrs. Fausat Olumide Yusuf (MNIM, MBA), represented by Engr. Joseph Oladimeji Alasoluyi, Head of Manufacturing Services Department. He welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of attention to detail.
Engr. Dr. Olasupo Daniel Ogundare (COREN, MAIE, MNSE, MNMS, MMSN) delivered a scholarly PowerPoint presentation titled EMDI Magnet Production Using Local Content Concept. He elucidated the properties of magnets, including: Bipolarity, Inter-magnetic forces and Surrounding magnetic fields. The presentation highlighted the production process, where grey cast iron scraps were melted in a 100kg rotary furnace to produce cast material. The cast metal was cleaned, machined, and prepared for magnetism induction using a solenoid designed and developed by the team comprising Engr. J.O. Alasoluyi, Engr. O.G. Babatunde, Engr. D.Y. Kwa, Engr. Teslim A and Mr. C.O. Ajayi, they were acknowledged for their contributions.
In her closing remarks, the Acting MD/OO (Mrs. Fausat Olumide Yusuf (MNIM MBA) ably represented by Engr J.O Alasoluyi commended the engineers and scientists for demonstrating innate capacity and ingenuity. She emphasized that, despite using a relatively primitive 100kg rotary furnace, the team successfully produced a permanent magnet. With process optimization, EMDI-NASENI can compete globally, becoming a magnet export hub for the African continent and fulfilling the agency’s commercialization agenda. The seminar concluded with the National Prayer at 12:29 p.m.
