On Friday, 21th June, 2024, the Engineering Materials Development Institute (EMDI) Akure hosted a distinguished graduation ceremony for its interns, marking the successful culmination of their 3-month intensive internship program. The ceremony commenced at 10:46am with the newly reintroduced National Anthem, followed by an inaugural address from the Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs. Fausat Olumide Yusuf (MNIM, MBA), who was ably represented by Engr. Alhassan Isa Usman, Head of the Engineering & Technical Services Department. In her keynote address, Mrs. Yusuf expressed her profound delight and satisfaction at the interns’ successful completion of the program, commending the program instructors and the Institute’s Training Committee for their steadfast dedication and commitment to excellence. She congratulated the graduating interns and admonished them to serve as exemplary ambassadors of the Institute, upholding its values and reputation in their future endeavors.

Dr. Kingsley Ukoba, Chairman of the Institute’s Training Committee, made brief remarks, highlighting the exceptional caliber of the graduating interns and the Institute’s commitment to fostering innovation and excellence in engineering materials development. The 3-month internship program comprised three comprehensive courses:

– Electrical Wiring and Electronics

– Artificial Intelligence (AI)

– Information Communication Technology (ICT)

These courses were carefully designed to equip the interns with cutting-edge skills and knowledge in electrical wiring and electronics, AI, and ICT, preparing them for successful careers in engineering materials development. The ceremony featured presentations on cutting-edge projects designed and developed by the interns, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a Heavy Duty Capacity Extension Box. Representatives of the graduating interns showcased their projects, demonstrating their technical expertise, creativity, and innovative thinking. Program instructors, Mr. Ayeni of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) unit and Engr. Tajudeen Alajo of the Engineering and Technical Services Department, offered brief evaluations of the interns’ conduct and attitude during the 3-month program, praising their enthusiasm, commitment, and exceptional learning ethic. Certificates were presented to the graduating interns individually by the Institute’s high-class management staff in a colorful ceremony, amidst cheers and applause, in recognition of their outstanding achievements.

The ceremony also featured a bidding segment for the projects designed by the interns, expertly handled by Dr. O. J. Akinribide of the Research and Development Department and Mrs. Stella Richard-Aina, where some quantity of the Heavy Duty Capacity Extension Boxes were acquired by the highest bidders, in a demonstration of the Institute’s commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship. Mr. Ayeni expressed the vote of thanks, and the ceremony came to a close with the recitation of the National Anthem and a group photograph at 11:37am, marking a memorable conclusion to the event.
